THE GREEN SHED

The Green Shed is a voluntary run community retail space where island residents can sell lovingly crafted items and produce to visitors. Just a 5 min walk from the pier, it is open 24hrs a day and uses an honesty box system (cash only).

Originally an old generator shed which became obsolete when the new power scheme was installed, it was given a facelift and turned into the one stop shopping emporium of Muck.

On any given day you may find cards, soaps, preserves, knitted items, bags, jewellery, honey, island grown veggies, free range eggs and many other knick nacks and doodahs.

It's the perfect spot to pick up a keepsake to remember your holiday or a thoughtful gift for someone back home. Whether you're sheltering from the rain or simply browsing, you'll find a little piece of our island to take with you.

    TARA

    Hello, my name is Tara.

I enjoy arts and crafts. I made the cards by block printing with pressed flowers and plants I found on the island.

I also make the Muck memory bottles, which include the mermaid money bottles (to be spent underwater!), and the mermaid gold (cowrie shells).

I enjoy collecting the shells and drift wood from the bays of Muck and using them in my crafts.

    Hope you enjoy, thanks

    Tara

  • ZOE

Hello there, I’m Zoe, Gingerbread House Soap Co. & Small Isles Artist. My family and I have made Muck our home for the last 14 years. I make soap, candles, lip balms and other smelly goodies, without too many nasties!

I also paint local views in oils and acrylics, particularly sunsets, seascapes, flora & fauna. My cards and mugs are all from original paintings, and I am very happy to take commissions.

I help to run The Green Shed, which keeps me out of trouble. Muck for me is all about our close community and obviously the amazing views. It’s an amazing place, but a takeaway would definitely be a plus.

    DAVID

Hi there. My name is David and I am one of the founding members of The Green Shed. I moved to Muck in 2007 and my partner, Julie in 2001. We split our time between Muck and the Isle of Raasay where Julie now works as a community nurse. We work with a mix of Muck wool and dyed merino. Julie’s passion is photography and she enjoys capturing the beauty of this magical island.

  • MURN

Hi there, my name is Murn and I am @_gamekeepers_nurse. I love knitting headbands, making little paracord crafts & tote bags. I help to run The Green Shed and am enjoying embracing island life and all that it has to offer. What a beautiful place to be and a lovely community.

    PHOEBE

My name is Phoebe, I moved to the island permanently after finishing my degree in 2015. I am now the nursery teacher and also love helping out on the farm, where my favourite times are lambing and shearing.

I hope to promote the various uses of natural wool, a product that I think should be valued more. If you see me on the island I’ll most likely be chasing after sheep, dogs, ponies or small children.
