FACILITIES
The Isle of Muck offers a warm welcome to visitors, with essential facilities designed to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Here's what you need to know:
Muck Community Hall
The Community Hall is the beating heart of social life on Muck — a space where locals and visitors come together for events, gatherings, and meetings. Open 24/7, it's a welcoming place where you can relax, connect with others, and access a range of useful facilities:
Wi-Fi: Stay connected with public Wi-Fi available throughout the hall.
Toilets and Showers: Clean and accessible facilities for public use.
Washing Machine: Perfect for freshening up after a day exploring the island's trails.
Sports Hall: Equipped with sports gear and toddler toys for family fun.
Upstairs Area: Discover a library, heritage display, pool table, and foosball for relaxed downtime.
The Community Hall is open for everyone to respectfully enjoy, and donations are greatly appreciated to help maintain these facilities. Please note that the kitchen is reserved for community events rather than everyday use. (When the GP/ANP visits the island (every second Wednesday), the upstairs meeting room may be unavailable for a few hours).
Additional Toilets
An extra public toilet is located at Gallanach Farm, providing further convenience for visitors exploring that part of the island.

Medical Support and Emergency Services
While there is no resident doctor or nurse on the Isle of Muck, emergency support is available if required:
Defibrillator: For peace of mind, there are 2 public defibrillators on the island. One is located at the Green Shed, Port Mor and the other is inside the farm shed at Gallanach. Both are accessible 24/7.
Emergency Services: In an emergency, please dial 999. For non-emergencies, call NHS 24 on 111. In urgent cases, patients are typically transferred to hospital via helicopter or lifeboat. The nearest hospital is in Fort William.
Local GP Practice: The Isle of Muck is served by the Small Isles Practice, now part of the Sleat & Broadford Practice.
Help Keep Muck Beautiful
Muck is a stunning island with no rubbish collection service. Everything has to be taken to the mainland by boat. That means waste disposal here is a big deal, and we really appreciate your help in keeping the island clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone, especially our wildlife.
If you're visiting just for the day or arriving by yacht, we kindly ask that you take your rubbish home with you where possible. Every bit helps!
There are clearly marked skips at the harbour for:
Glass recycling
Plastic, cans, and tins recycling
Residual waste (general rubbish)
Please place your rubbish inside the skips, not on top, as the lids are sealed to prevent wind and wildlife from scattering it.
If you're staying in a holiday cottage, there are dedicated skip bins at your accommodation. Please use these for your rubbish.
A note on dog waste:
Please bag it and place it in the residual waste skip at the pier. Sadly, bags left lying around are not only unpleasant, they’re also dangerous for animals and wildlife. Thank you for helping us protect this special place.
Thanks for doing your part to care for Muck, we’re so glad you’re here.
Helpful Tips
If you’re exploring the island’s remote beauty, it's wise to carry a mobile phone with you in case you need assistance.
The island's close-knit community is always willing to offer guidance if you’re unsure where to find something — don’t hesitate to ask!
