HIKING

Muck is here to be enjoyed and explored by all visitors, and we encourage you to get off the beaten path and fully explore the island. A walking map is available for a small fee from The Green Shed.

As much of the island is a working farm, we ask visitors to keep dogs on a lead and to avoid fields with lambs. If unsure, please just ask a local.

A good place to start when considering where to hike is Walk Highlands.

Our Favourite Walks:

1. Gallanach Bay – If you have limited time, walking across the island to Gallanach Bay offers stunning views, white sandy beaches, and a peaceful escape.

2. Muck Coastal Circuit – A circular route taking in the rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and hidden coves, ideal for those wanting a full exploration of the island.

3. Beinn Airein – The highest point on Muck, providing panoramic views of the Small Isles, particularly at sunrise or sunset.

4. Shell Bay – A beautiful, secluded bay with fascinating shell deposits and rock formations, perfect for a tranquil coastal walk.

5. Camas Mor - A large bay beneath Beinn Airein, designated as a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) due to the Jurassic limestone formations. The layers are visible below the high water mark. You might even discover dinosaur remains! Check out this video for more details.
